Construction of a 37,000 sq ft Tesco superstore on the old C&A site in Highams Park is due for completion in September 2012.

The Tesco store is part of an 11.2-acre regeneration scheme, designed by Collado Collins, around Jubilee Avenue and Hickman Avenue, Highams Park, London E4. The scheme also includes 253 residential units around a public park with 10 shops and cafes lining a new street called Lime Row.

Spenhill, the wholly owned regeneration subsidiary of Tesco, started construction of the first phase of the £105m mixed-use development in May 2011 through its main contractor, Mclaren Construction. The first phase of the project, which includes 80 apartments and 14 terraced houses, is due for completion by March 2012. These homes will provide social accommodation.

The second and third phases of the development, due for completion November 2012, include the construction of the 37,000 sq ft Tesco superstore with basement car parking, a first floor service yard, 24 private sale apartments, A1-A3 business units, and four light Industrial units with associated office space.

McLaren Construction will also undertake civil and infrastructure works associated with the development, including reconfiguring sections of a main road and introducing traffic lights, a pedestrian crossing and traffic island.
